Wat Na Phra Mén

This much older Buddha image is housed in a small wihan behind the main temple. According to some guidebooks, it was brought from Sri Lanka; according to others, it goes back to the Dvaravati period in Thailand (from the 6th to the 11th centuries). These statements aren't necessarily contradictory, since the Dvaravati people were Buddhists and certainly had contact with Sri Lanka as well as India. The position — seated on a chair rather than at floor level — is uncommon in Southeast Asian Buddhist art.
